🎄British Christmas Traditions🎄

Hello everyone, I hope your Christmas preparations are well under way, and that you are getting excited for the big day!
It is said that it is “the most wonderful time of the year” and it certainly is one of our favourite times here at the store.
We always get excited about all of the fabulous treats we have in store during the holiday season and love watching the joy on everyones faces as they shop for their loved ones favourite gifts and foods.
We’ve also been thinking of some of the traditions from home that we continue up here in the Great White North.
A good ‘ol Panto!

Some of our favourites are the good old pantomime.. Oh no I didn’t – Oh yes I did!
I found one that looks great fun not too far away! The “hybrid live theatre/movie experience of Alice in wonderland from the Burloak theatre group looks like a great show. Check out the link here!

Traditional Christmas Dinner
One of my favourite things about Christmas is a traditional dinner. Pulling crackers, wearing silly paper crowns and feasting on turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrots, and parsnips. Maybe a little Cranberry sauce, some Yorkshire puddings, and a few pigs in blankets! I could go on…and on…
Of course you can find a lot of these favourites here at the store.. Paxo stuffing is a must have, along with the fabulous variety of sauces and gravies. We have them all right here for you! Be sure to check them out, Yum! I’ve included some handy links for you right below!

Christmas Carols

Now after all of that food, what is better than rounding off the evening with some yummy chocolates and a few Christmas Carols?
I researched a little about the songs we love to sing this time of year, and here are some fun facts about some of our favourites:
🎄Bing Crosby’s version of “White Christmas” is the highest selling single of all time.
🎄Jingle Bells was the first song performed in space!
🎄Mel Tormé’s “The Christmas Song” (more commonly known as “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire”) was written during a summer heatwave in 1944!
British Christmas Movies!

Another favourite way to spend the day is watching some classic Christmas movies.. above are a couple of my favourites and are definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen them yet, or even a re-watch if you have!
The Snowman – This movie is based on the Raymond Briggs’ book of the same name, this short movie is a British holiday classic. On a cold winter morning, a young boy makes a snowman and travels to the North Pole to meet Father Christmas
Love Actually – This may be the ultimate British Christmas film of the modern era, This ensemble comedy includes Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, and more, you will feel all of the feels with this one!
The Queens Christmas Day Speech

Christmas is not complete of course without the Queens speech, can you believe that this year will mark the 69th Christmas that Queen Elizabeth gives her address on Christmas Day … The royal tradition, known as the King’s Christmas Message, began in 1932, and was seen as an opportunity for the monarch to reflect on the year’s major events and the royal family’s personal milestones
Well, now after all of that, I am just so excited for Christmas, and I don’t know about you but I definitely will be finishing off my evening with a delicious pudding, (lit on fire first of course!)
If you don’t have yours yet, check out these yummy ones from Matthew Walker!
